I found out that fresh -squeezed orange juice spoils quickly. To avoid expensive spoilage, manufactors use a heating process to remove oxygen quickly, so the juice won't oxidize. The juice can then be stored in tanks for up to a year. Imagine that, really blows that idea of "fresh squeezed juice" doesn't it.
When one changes a product they may get the results they want but other results happen as well so they have to take more measures. The heating process strips the juice of its flavor and the juice ends up tasting like sugar water. No orange flavor at all. So now we have to add flavor and to do that the manufactures add "flavor packs" developed by Perfume Companies! Some of the chemicals in these "flavor packs" are Ethyl butyrate.
So by now you are checking the ingredients list on your "Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice and you don't see Ethyl Butyrate listed. Why?? Because they are originally derived from the discarded orange peels. This makes them "orange by-products" and according to the federal law they don't have to be listed. This is true even though the by-products have been altered and no longer resemble anything found in nature.
I am sure if we did some research we would find that many of our juice are the same. That really all we are drinking is flavored sugar water..
I suggest you do as I do. When I want some orange juice I squeeze my own or just eat a juicey orange. Great flavor, fiber and great nutrients.. Enjoy!
